Here at Wessex, our aim is to deliver the highest quality of education, care and preparation for life for all students at Wessex Lodge School. We pride ourselves on our exemplary teaching staff, who each bring their own individual qualities to the friendly and dynamic staff team at Wessex Lodge School. 

Mike has been a qualified teacher for 19 years and has gained a wealth of experience working with children and young people with special educational needs in both mainstream and special education. Mike qualified as a teacher of secondary Science but has also taught ICT, PE and Photography over Key Stages 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Kate Stradling
Principal/Deputy DSL

Kate is Principal at Wessex Lodge School and only joined us in 2020. She has extensive experience in SEMH settings and is bringing new ideas to the table.

Ray joined the school in 2020 as SENCO. He has over 30 years' teaching experience with 7 years post-qualifying years’ experience as a SENCO and 11 years in a variety of senior roles in mainstream and specialist schools.

Mark Thompson
Head of Education/Head of Careers

Mark has over 22 years experience in teaching, instructing and coaching young people in a variety of different settings, ranging from schools, recreational clubs and outdoor adventure settings.

Leah joined Wessex Lodge School over 3 years ago to set up the Art department. Since then, Leah has become increasingly involved in the development of the bespoke school curriculum.

Ethan is a passionate young Head of education with a First-class BA Hons degree in English Literature and Drama from Cardiff university.

Wessex Lodge School

Wessex Lodge School is the main school site based in Frome. This is where a number of classroom based activities take place, such as Maths, English and Home Cooking Skills. It is also the main base for our middle school.

Triskele Farm

Triskele Farm is an alternative provision therapy farm, linked with Wessex Lodge School. This facility is located in Maiden Bradley and allows students the opportunity to explore subject paths which would otherwise not be available to them. This includes the likes of animal care, horticulture, construction and forest school, as well as sporting activities,  and extra classrooms for more academic subjects.

Wessex Lodge School is operated by Acorn Care and Education Ltd.

 

Wessex Lodge School is owned by Wessex College Limited and is a fully owned subsidiary of Acorn Care and Education Ltd., which is part of Outcomes First Group, a provider of children’s services in the UK.

 

Wessex Lodge School has its own dedicated management team, under the leadership of Kate Stradling. Oversight of school management is provided by the Regional Director for Acorn Education and Care responsible to the Managing Director, Jane Worsley and Chief Operating Officer, Richard Power.

 

Richard Power also acts as the registered Proprietor Chairperson for Acorn Care and Education Ltd.

 

The management team is complemented by Group support functions covering Quality and Compliance, Admissions and Marketing, Human Resources, Finance and IT. Key decisions are referred to Outcomes First Group’s Board of Directors, consisting of Outcomes First Group CEO, David Leatherbarrow and CFO, Jean-Luc Janet, together with an independent Chairman and three Non-Executive Directors.

 

In addition, the Group continues its robust governance through local governing committees, a national education performance board, chaired by the Operations Director and an independent Safeguarding and Quality Committee with three independent members. These governance groups meet every term.
